While at sea "Special Effects" knows a SPX is in contact with the mainland via Coastlands. 

 

Twice daily via the HF Radio the crew report posistion, direction, boat speed, wind, cloud cover, sea and swell conditions. 

 

They discuss breilfy the health and welbeing of the crew, share some encourcgment, and relay any message.

 

The data is entered online for use in future weather modeling predictions. This detail are also used to plot SPX on a map which you can view.

Special Effects - Preparation for departure.


Each year Special Effects returns to Hervey Bay. During this time whilst back @ home, she is checked and serviced in preparation for a safe passage to Bougainville. Ocean crossings when your @ sea for up to 10 days, requires a well prepared vessel.

 

Skipper Ernie Gunders along with others who can help ensure her bottom is clean and all fixtures and equipment are ship shape for safe and trouble free journey.
